KABUL, June 30 (Xinhua) -- A total of 2,997 Afghan families with 10,661 members returned to their homeland from neighboring Iran and Pakistan on Sunday, Afghanistan's High Commission for Addressing Returnees Problems said Monday.
The refugees have come home via the Islam Qala border crossing in western Herat province, the Torkham border crossing in eastern Nangarhar province, the Spin Boldak border crossing in southern Kandahar province, and the Abrisham border crossing in western Nimroz province, it said.
According to the source, most immigrants have returned from Iran via the Islam Qala crossing point.
Over 1.2 million Afghans have returned from neighboring Iran and Pakistan so far in 2025, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
The Afghan interim government has been repeatedly calling upon Afghan refugees to end living abroad as refugees and return home to contribute to the rebuilding of their war-torn homeland.
